Special report: EYFS training - Forward thinking

Practice in all services will have to change for the EYFS. Karen Faux looks at what's being done to prepare staff for the transition.

It may be over a year until the Early Years Foundation Stage is officially implemented, but local authorities are wasting no time in getting their training underway.

One of the main challenges is ensuring that a range of sectors, including health and social services, are engaged with the EYFS and understand how their day-to-day practice will change to meet the requirements of the new framework from September 2008.

It is a weighty responsibility. The EYFS is designed to improve outcomes for young children under the Childcare Act 2006 and the EYFS will not be successful unless local authorities commit to a training strategy that can ensure its effectiveness.
