Work Matters: Management Focus - Pre-school settles in

A small setting is re-establishing itself as a hub of the local community thanks to spacious new premises, says Karen Faux.

Since moving into its new community centre building last year, Starcross Pre-school in Devon is consolidating its role as a community hub. The spacious premises provide an after-school and holiday club, pre-school and baby and toddler group, and offer space that can be used by local families and the primary school to which they are attached.

'The new building is having a huge impact on the school by extending its services and its links with the community,' says primary head teacher Iannis Ireland. 'We had championed the cause for a new facility for a long time and it is now taking us closer to our aim of offering more elements of service and providing added value.'
