A wide range of nursery providers in Sunderland are recognising the benefits of promoting regular attendance at nursery, on the back of an innovative support service run by the city council.
'Promoting attendance' provides resources and strategies to help practitioners work with families to establish healthy lifestyles and routines at home. It mirrors a scheme already successfully rolled out in local schools.
Rachel Sykes, early years attendance development officer, says, 'There are benefits on a variety of levels, but from a business point of view, regular attendance helps managers to make effective use of staff and enables assessments and observations to be more fluent. It helps to establish good patterns of practice.'
