Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn, a specialist community school in Denbigh, north Wales, has been providing care and education for autistic children and young people aged between three and 19 years for more than 30 years.
Three years ago the Welsh Assembly awarded the school a grant of 2.3m to redevelop its facilities and provide the first regional centre for children with autism in Wales and the bordering areas.
Jane Davidson, minister for education and lifelong learning, launched the first new building for secondary school-aged children last week.
She said, 'In a matter of months Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn plans to provide residential and respite care facilities. It is ambitious, but the school is already a real example of good partnership working and a trailblazer of truly excellent provision for children who deserve the very best start that we can provide.'
