3 day strike

More than 400 nursery nurses in East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire and South and North Lanarkshire went on strike for three days last week to kick off the second phase of Unison's campaign to boost their pay. The strike will be picked up by nursery nurses in Inverclyde this week, then Falkirk, Stirling and Dundee the week after and West and East Dunbartonshire the following week. South Lanarkshire Unison branch secretary Stephen Smellie said, 'If anyone believed that the nursery nurses' claim would disappear as term-time establishments closed for the summer, they were wrong.' The first phase of industrial action closed council-run nurseries and nursery classes across Scotland in May and June, building up to a national demonstration last month.
