A house for Elmer

The nursery had a collection of plain boxes of various sizes which they flattened and reconstructed with the printed sides on the inside. The boxes were used as construction blocks to design and make a house for Elmer, the multicoloured elephant created by David McKee. At the end of the session children drew their house so someone else could make their construction the following day. Through such an exercise, children were able to make their own construction kit and provide a manual so the kit could be used by others to develop their understanding and extend their capabilities in the use of commercially manufactured kits.
