A Mediterranean diet of fruit, vegetables and nuts

A Mediterranean diet of fruit, vegetables and nuts could protect children against allergies, said a study published in the British Medical Journal last week. Researchers from the University of Crete studied the diets, respiratory symptoms and allergic reactions of 700 children aged between seven and 18 years old living on the island, finding that children who ate nuts at least three times a week were less likely to wheeze, while a high intake of margarine doubled the chances of asthma.
