A minimum of fuss

After reading 'On the rise' (20 October), I felt I should write about how the minimum wage affects me as a nursery owner. First, I live on the Isle of Man, where things are a bit different. Our minimum wage is 5.25. This is for anyone over the age of 18. If you are aged 17 to 18 or are a development worker it is 4.90, and if you are under 17 it's Pounds 4.20.

To add to this our utility bills are far higher than anywhere in England, and when looking through the last lot of average weekly fees nurseries are charging, most of the nurseries on the island fell into the lower section.

Our parents don't get family credit; in fact there is little or no help for anyone unless you are on a very low income or are a single parent.
