A month in the life of Harry Tobias

During the past month, Harry has shown significant development physically. He has become extremely sturdy when sitting, and can now sit and play with his toys for considerable lengths of time. He has also discovered how to pull himself on to his feet, and manages to creep sideways along a sofa or a coffee table. This clearly gives him great pleasure and he beams at his family, who reward him with a clap. Standing like this is quite unusual for a baby of Harry's age, and his legs tend to give way suddenly and regularly, with him landing on his bottom with a bump.

Harry shows great interest in the shape and feel of each toy or object he handles, moving his fingers and palms around them, rubbing them over his cheeks and putting them to his mouth for further exploration. As he reaches out for toys, Harry mostly uses his whole hand, just occasionally showing signs of an emerging pincer grasp. His favourite play items are his beakers, which he likes to bang together. He also enjoys removing the curtain rings from his 'mug tree', but cannot as yet reposition them.
