A 'real nappies' project

A 'real nappies' project to promote the use of towelling nappies over disposables has been launched by Scottish Green Party leader Robin Harper. For 16 weeks mothers on maternity wards at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary are being offered Velcro-fastening, towelling nappies by laundry firm Nappy Days. A spokeswoman said, 'Mothers are given the choice of whether or not to use the real nappies. About 50 per cent have agreed to use them and all of them so far have expressed satisfaction.' The Edinburgh Environmental Project has given funding of 14,655 to cover the cost of the nappies, information leaflets, and training for nurses, midwives and health visitors throughout the city.
