A third of parents in the UK

A third of parents in the UK are unaware that sleeping on their backs is safer for babies than their front or side, according to a survey by the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths. More than half the parents surveyed thought a baby's bedding should be left loose rather than tucked in, even though tucking in the covers is associated with a lower risk of cot death. FSID director Joyce Epstein said, 'With seven babies still dying every week, it is vitally important we hammer the cot death message home with parents and carers.' The FSID helpline is on 0870 787 0554.
