After a number of children were diagnosed with E.coli infection

After a number of children were diagnosed with E.coli infection, a private nursery in Brecon, Wales, was forced to close last week. The first case at Puffins Pre-school was identified on 9 November and further cases came to light over the weekend. As Nursery World went to press, parents were due to attend a private briefing by Powys Council. Puffins Pre-school will undergo 'enhanced cleaning' before public health officials allow it to reopen. A spokesman for the National Public Health Service for Wales said, 'No connection with the E.coli outbreak in the South Wales valleys has been established or ruled out. It is likely that E.coli remains in the community due to the widespread nature of its original distribution.' More than 40 schools in south Wales have been linked to the E.coli outbreak since September. It has affected 168 people and been blamed for the death of a five-year-old boy.
