3 months A child has some head control, when lying on her back and face down. Back firmness increases and she begins to straighten her back when sitting on your knee. 1 year A child this age is usually well able to crawl around the floor. She is steadier on her feet, able to take her own weight, and may be ready to take her first step.

2 years Using a wall or banister as support, she can walk up and down stairs. She is steadier on her feet and can kick a ball without falling over.

3 years She is able to stand on tiptoes and walk several balances without stumbling. She can also jump off a step on to the floor.

4 years Hopping, balancing on a small wooden beam, and using pedals to propel a pedal car or tricycle are all within her capabilities now.
