Ailing Nottingham nursery relaunched

Nottingham-based nursery group Alphabet House Day Nurseries has rescued a West Bridgford nursery faced with closure.

The chain took over Adbolton Kindergarten in the city on 1 December, following the efforts of a parents' action group to save the nursery after it went into administration in November.

The kindergarten had been running at half its capacity and struggled to meet increased running costs. The previous owners also ran a nearby nursery in Trent Fields that closed last year.

Tony and Marie Brentford, the owners of Alphabet House Day Nurseries, held a social evening last week to meet parents and set out their plans for the new setting.

They said they would refurbish the baby room and equip the nursery with more high-quality toys. They also plan to introduce new ideas to the nursery, including playing different types of music to the children, such as Bangra, and to improve staff training.

The husband-and-wife team said they hoped to form a close relationship with existing staff, who will continue to work at the setting. Alphabet House Day Nurseries has two other nurseries in the Beeston and Lowdham areas of Nottingham, and the owners said they would take the same hands-on approach at Adbolton.

Mr Brentford said, 'We weren't looking for another nursery, but the setting is in a great location and there is lots of demand for childcare in the area.

'Parents were very happy with the service but not with the management structure, and they felt their fees weren't being invested back into the nursery.

'We want to take the nursery's existing good practice, add to it and provide a real premium product that parents expect. We are only looking to change the things that don't work and make the setting a profitable one. Since buying the nursery, parents who said they were going to leave have now changed their mind.'
