Young children can experience many different kinds of 'transitions' and for some children these experiences may cause uncertainty and even distress.
Moving from a familiar room to another location to listen to a story, or being sent to wash hands or eat a meal in another room are some of the 'transitional' experiences en-countered on a daily basis.
Major transitions such as starting or moving nursery can cause anxiety as well as excitement, particularly if the child has special educational needs. These experiences will affect a child's self-esteem, so it is important that professionals make transitional experiences as positive and fun as possible.
