All playing by the same rules

We were disappointed to learn of the anger expressed by staff employed by voluntary organisations in Glasgow (Nursery World Scotland, 28 June).

Our understanding is that the same grant formula applies for every application before the grants allocation group seeking childcare strategy funding, regardless of whatever sector applies for that money. A set criteria is fixed for allocation based on the new places a provider is creating and the number of staff needed to care for the extra children.

We believe staff working in voluntary organisations were dismayed that they did not receive the full amount of grant for their projects, because their projects did not fully meet the set criteria. Therefore they turned their anger on the private nurseries which met the criteria for sustainable expansion.
