An extension of the

Protection of Children (Scotland) Bill, so that non-regulated organisations will also be required to refer unsuitable people to the list of persons deemed unsuitable to work with children (News, 12 December), has been welcomed by the Scottish Out of School Care Network. The SOSCN has put itself forward to provide training and support for childcare employers. A spokeswoman said, 'The SOSCN has already welcomed the proposal that employers should have an obligation to report concerns about individuals who have been employed by them. We recognise that this will create additional support and training requirements for the many small employers in the childcare sector. We made a point in our submission to Parliament that this will be necessary to ensure every organisation understands their duties under the legislation. Organisations like the SOSCN have a role to play in providing such training and support, and in advocating for resources for such training and support to be made available locally.'
