An independent selection of new products and resources

Two innovative new products from Tommee Tippee are the Roll 'n' Go bib and the Easiflow cup. The Roll 'n' Go is made from a soft and flexible PVC-free material, an all-in-one scoop to catch spills and an 'easy-fasten neck'. The bib can be washed in the dishwasher, rolled up small for travelling or storage and is designed to be very light and comfortable to wear. Available in blue or pink, the Roll 'n' Go is priced 2.99. The Easiflow cup is the only 'trainer cup' to be endorsed by the British Dental Health Foundation, and the reason for this is that the cup is designed to be easy to drink from without excessive sucking. There is an increasing amount of anecdotal evidence to suggest that continual use of non-spill cups may damage children's teeth. The valve device that prevents spillage in 'non-spill' cups requires a strong suck, which could lead to buck teeth, dehydration and speech and language difficulties. In addition, if the cups are filled with sugary drinks there is a risk of dental decay. The Tommee Tippee Easiflow cup has a soft spout designed to encourage the natural 'stripping' action used in breast-feeding to release liquid. The child puts pressure on the spout to get a drink and the moment the pressure is released the spout seals. The British Dental Health Foundation recommends water or milk as the only suitable drinks for babies and children, and also that drinking times are kept short. The Easiflow cup holds 250ml and is priced 3.49. A Heat Sensor version of the cup is also available. This cup turns from red to yellow if the drink poured into it is too hot for a child to drink comfortably. The Heat Sensor is priced 3.99. A taller beaker, without handles and with a capacity of 350ml is priced 2.99. A new design from Tommee Tippee is about to be on sale as we go to press and this is a concave training lid with a tumbler and two straws, but without a spout. The aim with this new product is to encourage children to attempt 'open cup drinking', without subjecting them to spills and mess. The training lid has one drinking hole that guides the child towards the rim of the cup and a gentle 'tipping up' motion. The lid will also accommodate a straw, which is deemed to be healthy, because the liquid spends less time on the teeth. The new training lid, tumbler and straws are priced 2.99.
