An international conference on the challenges facing children and young people

An international conference on the challenges facing children and young people to be held in Sheffield will hear from diverse speakers including those with working experience in the law courts and in war zones. Delegates at the conference, 'Healing the Future', at Sheffield Hallam University from 10 to 12 July, will consider ways counselling, psychotherapy, and related clinical and educational strategies can support children, their families and those who work with them. Conference organiser Colin Feltham of the university's School of Education said, 'The idea of a sheltered and innocent childhood no longer exists. Children and young people live in an adult world but without many of the skills and experiences to cope with its stresses, fears and traumas. As adults we have a responsibility to look at whether techniques in psychotherapy, counselling, teaching and mentoring can improve young people's quality of life and chances of success.' For details see the website www.shu.ac.uk/schools/ ed/healing and to book a place contact Tara Cavanagh on 0114 225 5651.
