Analgesic effect of TV watching during venipuncture In this Italian study, 69 children aged seven to 12, undergoing the collection of blood from a vein, were randomly divided into a control group without any distraction procedure, a group in which passive distraction was used (a TV cartoon), and a group in which mothers performed active distraction. Both mothers and children scored pain after the procedure, indicating that procedures performed during TV watching were less painful than those procedures performed during active distraction, or the control group.
