Analysis: National Year of Reading - Spread the word

The national campaign to improve children's literacy skills starts at home, with the parents. Karen Faux looks at what's being done in different communities to reach out to families.

It's been a decade since the last National Year of Reading and now plans for a campaign in 2008 carry a fresh determination to open new doors to early reading.

'Just ten minutes a day can make a difference to a child's future and create a love of reading from a very early age,' he said.

Early years experts welcome the campaign's emphasis on reading at home and its recognition that adult literacy skills need to be part of the focus.
