Backing the ADCE

I obtained the Advanced Diploma in Childcare and Education (ADCE) in May 1998. Like Virginia Kolmer (Letters, 17 February), I was under the impression that it is a Level 4 qualification. I already had a Level 3 qualification and I had to submit a piece of work and attend an interview to get on the course. I have searched my files to find literature which shows the ADCE as Level 4 without success, although I'm sure that I did have something. As Virginia points out, it was an extremely demanding qualification to achieve and I paid for the course myself, costing more than 600. Perhaps this qualification should be put on the National Qualifications Framework.

I was most upset after our last Ofsted inspection when I was told that the inspector had not heard of the ADCE. I wish I had been asked about this personally. Next time I intend to take all the documentation I can to support my hard-won achievement.
