Bookstart initiative

The Bookstart initiative has received a 500,000 funding boost from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Booktrust director Chris Meade said, 'Books are as essential to the new millennium as they were to the last - this money will help Booktrust to ensure that every baby born in the UK receives a good bookstart in life.' Since 1992 more than one million babies and their families have benefited from the scheme, which gives free books to babies as well as reading advice and support to parents and carers.
