Business training

Business training has not quite trickled down to nursery children yet, but early years practitioners can acquire some valuable knowledge at a tailor-made series of business skills development seminars to be held across England next month. Topics in the seminars by the National Day Nurseries Association include creating new childcare places, planning for change, funding for growth, and the recruitment and retention of staff. The NDNA said it would draw on examples of settings that are tackling these issues, as well as highlighting a range of solutions to shared problems. Lynnette Lee, NDNA training development manager, said, 'From finance to staffing, sustainability is the fundamental issue for childcare. The sector you are in, private, voluntary or public, doesn't matter. What is important is that you are focused on finding business solutions to the very real childcare issues we are facing.' The seminars are in Bromsgrove (12 November), Thetford (13), Nottingham (14), Bristol (18), Horley (19), London (21), Manchester (26), Chester (27) and Bradford (28). Places cost 55 per person for NDNA members and 65 per person for non-members, and support may be available from your EYDCP or your local LSC. Contact the NDNA on 0870 774 4244.
