Busy Bees nursery re-opens following child death

Provision
The nursery owned by parent company Busy Bees, which was closed while police investigated the death of a child, has now re-opened.

The Edinburgh nursery - which trades under the Careshare name - was temporarily closed for two days last week to allow Police Scotland to carry out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a child.

It re-opened on Monday (1 December).

Last Wednesday (26 November), a 13-month-old girl stopped breathing while in the care of the nursery, known as ‘Careshare at Port Hamilton’. She was taken to Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children, but medical staff were unable to revive her.

Reports suggest that the child had a medical condition and there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

A spokesperson for Busy Bees said, ‘We are able to confirm that the police and external bodies have concluded their investigations.

‘We would like to thank staff, parents and the childcare sector for their overwhelming support throughout.

‘May we now ask you to help us respect the privacy of the parents and the devoted staff team at Port Hamilton, who are trying to come to terms with their devastating loss.’

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said, 'Following the death of a 13-month-old baby girl at a nursery in Morrision Street, Police Scotland can confirm that enquiries are ongoing, however, there appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding this incident.'
