Can the strategy work?

In reply to Kim Welsh's argument (In my view, 3 March), I too feel that while there is much to be said for the Government's ten-year strategy for childcare, there are also many flaws. Can all these bright ideas ever be achieved in practice? Perhaps the Government should learn some lessons from the failing Child Support Agency before it launches yet another campaign to help families.

Where will we, a sessional pre-school group with a very good Ofsted inspection, fit into the strategy? Increasing the free sessional times to four hours in the long term might be welcomed by some, but as we already know, the current funding available in many parts of the country struggles to pay the current staffing and premises costs, and many groups who offer more than the required minimum already charge a disproportionate top-up.
