More than 80 nursery school heads and professionals met at the House of Commons to discuss, 'Are we waving goodbye to state nursery education?', a debate organised by the National Campaign for Real Nursery Education (NCRNE).
Delegates from Norfolk, Cheshire, Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and London spoke of their 'growing fears' over the roll-out of children's centres.
Nursery schools said that they were either being excluded from the programme by their local authority or 'coerced into it' with insufficient funding.
NCRNEchair Judy Evans said, 'Nursery schools that have become children's centres are concerned about sustainability and privatisation by stealth.
