I would like to voice my support for comments in the news story on changing the title of nursery nurse to early years worker ('Recruitment of men gets fresh impetus', 19 June). It would be most effective if this were to be the case. A change has been implemented within the workplace of a community nursery, where the title of pre-five worker is now used. There is so much diversity in qualifications, such titles reflect the job staff undertake, supported by the appropriate job description and specification.

Many students in Scotland undertaking the HNC in Childcare and Education have adopted the title of nursery nurse on completion. Yet this qualification has a different content to the former Scottish Nursery Nurse Board certificate. Therefore, it would be more effective to change such titles in accordance with the job one does, for example, early years worker.
