Childcare near to home or en route to work is preferred to workplace nurseries

Childcare near to home or en route to work is preferred to workplace nurseries by two-thirds of parents living and working in London, according to a survey by the charity Parents at Work and the City of London Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership. The report advises childcare providers to ask parents about changing their opening times to accommodate early starts and late finishes at work. Parents at Work chief executive Sarah Jackson said, 'Many parents have skills that are highly desirable for employers, yet expensive or inaccessible childcare, inflexible working arrangements and poor transport systems combine to drive skilled and qualified people out of the workforce.' The report is on www.parentsatwork.org.uk.
