Childcare places

Mayor of London Ken Livingstone faced criticism from the Liberal Democrats last week when a Greater London Authority budget report revealed that only 95 new childcare places were created in the capital between April and October last year. This is despite the mayor's pledge to create 800 new childcare places for Londoners by the end of March 2005. Dismissing claims that the London Development Agency had failed to deliver on the number of childcare places under the Neighbourhood Nurseries Initiative as 'completely inaccurate', the mayor said it was on target to achieve a minimum of 800 new places by the end of March.
