Childminders reveal shortfalls in training for EYFS

A small survey conducted by the National Childminding Association has found that some registered childminders in England have still not received advanced EYFS training.

Revealing the survey's findings at last week's Pre-School Learning Alliance conference celebrating the EYFS, NCMA chief executive Liz Bayram said, 'Our telephone survey revealed that while a lot of childminders did receive EYFS awareness training, not all of them had. Furthermore, many of them had not gone on to see more in-depth training on the EYFS four themes or on observation and record-keeping.'

The poll questioned 65 members who called the NCMA information line in August, and found that 76 per cent of them had only been given awareness training, which may not fully prepare them.

Ms Bayram saidd, 'Local authorities must not see September 1 as marking the end for training for childminders, just the beginning. Evidence shows that childminders who access training deliver improved outcomes for children.'
