Children's centres set to close in Cheshire

Provision
Five children’s centres in West Cheshire and Chester are to close in order to save the council £162,000 a year.

The following children’s centres will be de-registered: Cherry Grove; Malpas, Farndon and Tarvin; Woodlands; Hartford; and Over.

The control and management of the building used for Woodlands Children’s Centre will transfer to Woodlands Primary School in order for it to deliver on the Universal Infant Free School Meal initiative.

Over Children’s Centre will be turned into a nursery for two, three and four-year-olds run by Over Hall Community Enterprises Limited.

The other buildings will be put to community use.

The move by the council leaves 15 children’s centres throughout West Cheshire and Chester.

It follows a 12-week consultation into the future of its ‘less popular’ children’s centres last year.
