Choice or monopoly?

Gill Haynes' column (In My View, 15 September) made me feel extremely proud to be a registered childminder. But I could not help feeling a pang of sadness when reading her vision that all childminders should become part of a Children Come First Network by 2015. Will childminders still be able to sustain their settings by 2015?

I have built up a thriving business over seven years. I have a great relationship with parents and children and, despite working long hours and attending many courses, I thoroughly enjoy my role and get great satisfaction from it.

At my last inspection I received four outstanding results and one good, and I am very flexible in the care I offer. But during the past year I have noticed a decline in enquiries about my service. Other local childminders are having similar problems.
