Being familiar with key employment legislation is vitally important.
Ensuring that a commitment to equal opportunities is firmly embedded and integrated into your nursery's recruitment practices is also necessary.
Employment legislation exists to prevent discrimination on the grounds of sex, race or disability, and recently we have seen the introduction of legislation to protect employees from discrimination on the ground of religious or sexual orientation. Further legislative changes, such as the introduction of new disability discrimination regulations in October 2004, will give nursery managers additional considerations when recruiting new staff.
