A huge historic church close to the City in London has given Jane Mennie, writing here, and Jenny Gannon their own unique and extraordinarily beautiful nursery After three long years, we opened our nursery last January. Between us, we have careers in hands-on childcare in early years and special needs, as well as consultancy work for failing schools, and we decided to put our expertise into opening a day nursery of the highest calibre.

After three long years, we opened our nursery last January. Between us, we have careers in hands-on childcare in early years and special needs, as well as consultancy work for failing schools, and we decided to put our expertise into opening a day nursery of the highest calibre.

First of all we talked to as many people as possible - users and providers -involved in local childcare. We contacted officers in our local registration and inspection unit, and at the early years development and childcare partnership. Their help and advice was invaluable. We also worked for an agency as temporary nursery nurses during the school holidays to get a feel of competition in the private sector.
