Clubs tune in for music sessions

Last month saw the launch of music for life, an educational musical programme providing singing and composition lessons to four after-school care centres in South London, writes Nicole Curnow. Organised by the Music House for Children in Shepherd's Bush, this scheme allows children from Distillery, Bradmoor, Coningham and Fulham Cross children's centres to experiment with musical instruments and styles.

The scheme, financed by the New Opportunities Fund and local councils, aims to give children aged five to 12 the chance to express themselves through music.

Paula Steel, head of education at the Music House for Children, says, 'We want children from all backgrounds to have the opportunity to receive music tuition in a fun and creative way. This (programme) is a way of reaching children who may have had limited musical opportunities in school.'
