Committee of MPs to put EYFS under scrutiny

The Early Years Foundation Stage comes under scrutiny from the Children, Schools and Families Committee later this month.

The review, chaired by Barry Sheerman MP, will consider the curriculum, pedagogy and assessment arrangements under the EYFS.

It will also look at the statutory nature of the EYFS, whether itsbirth-to-five remit is appropriate, and the implications for the earlyyears and childcare workforce.

The select committee's decision to discuss the EYFS follows a campaignby Open EYE against the statutory nature of the framework, which has ledto thousands of supporters signing an Early Day Motion against the EYFSbecoming law.

This week the CSF committee called for urgent reform of the educationaltesting system and the emphasis on national tests.

The committee's reports can be seen at www.parliament.uk.
