As parents, teachers or carers of young children, we have a great responsibility to them which needs to be fully recognised and acknowledged.

We need to help children in their personal and social development from an early age. But how do they evolve from the egocentric view of their world to one embracing other viewpoints with empathy and understanding?

It is a long, slow process, but children are born with the ability and the urge to get on well with those around them. When this is beginning to work they will then be able to think in terms of the wider community, which is the essence of good citizenship.
