Big ideas

Use the story 'The great big ENORMOUS turnip' as a starting point to explore sequencing. Sharing the story

Sharing the story

* Share the story with the children and encourage them to predict what might happen next. 'Who might the big black dog call to?'

* Repeat the story and invite individual children to take the part of a character. The characters could wear a simple badge or headband and the child playing the turnip could jump up at the end of the story. As they take part, ask the children to make themselves smaller than the other characters to reflect the sequence of characters in the story. Suggest this as a way of remembering the sequence: the next person or animal is smaller than the last.
