Confederation of Scottish Local Authorities

Public services union Unison has blamed the Confederation of Scottish Local Authorities for prolonging its six-month-long dispute over nursery nurses' pay by refusing to negotiate nationally. The union said last week that because Cosla had only made a recommendation to local councils, nursery nurses across Scotland had been forced to continue with their industrial action. Margaret Ferris of Unison's nursery nurses working party said, 'Cosla has constantly tried to avoid dealing with this at a Scottish level. It is a huge disappointment to nursery nurses to have to intensify their action.' But Cosla said it had spent a lot of effort during the summer to come up with the proposals and that local negotiations over pay for the nursery nurses should continue.
