Under her leadership, the London-based charity, which was founded by Captain Thomas Coram in 1739, has grown into one of the country's leading children's charities, pioneering innovative approaches to working with vulnerable children and young people.

Ms Pugh, who retires from her post in April 2005, has spent the past 30 years in the voluntary sector. She said, 'I am hugely honoured that the work of Coram Family has been recognised in this way. It has been a privilege to work in an organisation that is so committed to providing high-quality services that really do meet the needs of children and their families.'
