The SPPA has warned that the decision, supposedly to curb increases in council tax, could have 'disastrous consequences' for under-threes, toddler, play and full daycare services.
SPPA chief executive Ian McLaughlan said he understood the council's need to make savings, but added that the three redundancies among his staff were 'a complete shock'. He accused the local authority of reneging on a promise made last December which 'indicated that SPPA's funding would continue in the next financial year'.
Mr McLaughlan said, 'The evidence suggests that the local authority, which is the commissioning agent for pre-school education, cannot also be the provider of support services.'
