DfES considers nanny register

Nanny registration has been put on the Government agenda with the commissioning of a feasibility study. The Department for Education and Skills has commissioned economists PriceWaterhouse- Coopers to undertake the study, in which it will be interviewing representatives from the nanny sector, including the Professional Association of Nursery Nurses, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and payroll service Nannytax.

Stephen Vahrman, managing director of Nannytax, said, 'The DfES has commissioned PriceWaterhouseCoopers to do a feasibility study on nanny registration. Having ignored the nanny sector for years, the Government has realised it needs to unify its tax credit regime, and nannies are a gap in its childcare strategy.

'Nannytax is on the list of groups to be interviewed because of concerns around the issue of parents being employers.'
