Managing director Jean Birtles says that they're 'finding it hard to keep up with the demand' for doulas, who assist mothers during and after having a baby, with anything from help with breastfeeding, cooking and housecleaning, to 'offering a loving shoulder if the baby blues hit'. The agency says its doulas earn around 10 an hour for post-birth work and from 200 to Pounds 350 for assisting at a birth. The only requirements for doulas are that they have to have been trained and to have given birth themselves at least once! For information ring British Doulas on 0870 757 5353.
