Don't forget dads

While I agree wholeheartedly with most of the views expressed in Geraldine Blount's article ('Out of time', 17 November), I take exception to the implication that only mothers bring up children. Many fathers are the primary carer, and we should encourage more to step into this role, which is possibly the most important thing you can do in life. When the author talks about informal support services for mothers , and mentions 'mother and toddler groups', this is not inclusive. Surely calling them toddler groups is better, as they should be open to all carers, be that dad, granny or childminders.

We want to encourage more men and fathers to be involved in parenting and childcare. Articles like this don't help by perpetuating the stereotype of mothers as the only primary carers.
