Dumfries and Galloway

Dumfries and Galloway has been awarded 350,000 by the Scottish Executive to pilot new childcare services to help parents out of poverty through working or studying. The funding will support programmes to provide childcare at flexible times, a roving creche and a 'sitter service' for those living in rural areas, and transport to childcare services. Communities minister Margaret Curran said that the Scottish Executive planned to invest 20m in rolling out similar services across Scotland from 2004 to 2006. She said, 'Dumfries and Galloway will pilot new childcare services and we will learn from their experience. This is a key part of our anti-poverty strategy.'
