Early years leaders tell Simon Vevers what they think of Osted inspectors' views on the flagships of integrated services

With plans to create 1,700 children's centres and encourage extended schools, the Government has watched keenly the evolution of the first strand of genuinely integrated service provision - early excellence centres (EECs) - which it clearly regards as a testing ground for these other developments.

To check the EECs' progress, the Government asked Ofsted inspectors to carry out pilot inspections to evaluate the centres' overall performance, how they are integrating services, their quality, standards, leadership and management, focusing on education in the Foundation Stage, childcare, and family and community support, including adult education.
