Nutritional Guidance for Early Years will build on the success of the Hungry for Success initiative, which transformed school meals in Scotland.

The guidance is aimed specifically at the early years sector, including local authority nurseries, childminders, playgroups and family centres. It includes:

* sample two-week menus covering all meals and snacks - one for one- to three-year-olds and one for four- to six-year-olds. The menus contain weighted portion sizes to ensure children's daily nutrient intake requirements are met

* information on different food groups, nutritional intake and menu planning

* vegetarian alternatives and advice on meeting the dietary requirements of children's religious beliefs, special needs or therapeutic diets
