The private nursery sector has settled down since the publication of Nursery Chains in November. Following the last supplement we published a revised Top 20 league table when the merger of two of the largest chains in the UK and Ireland, Asquith Court and Kidsunlimited, was called off at the eleventh hour.

Nord Anglia returned to being the league leader and, with only one new entry to the table, Primary Steps, little has changed since (see the league table on page 21).

But there is a newcomer to our unique Nursery Chains directory that is one to watch - Kids 1st Day Nurseries operated by the Helen McArdle Group (HMC). Presently the group has two 112-place nurseries and plans to open another three this year. We talk to HMC (see page 15) to find out how the chain proposes to develop.
