Certain interest groups and media, such as the Daily Mail, may find these results unpalatable. Anything that claims that mothers of very young children can return to work without harming them, and, indeed, perhaps give them benefits they would not have if their mother had stayed at home, is bound to incur disapproval.
However, in the UK, high-quality childcare for under-twos is short in supply and very expensive. This survey highlights the need for more investment in such care to ensure the best outcomes for young children.
